Personas “afectadas por la lepra”: “Despite being curable, if not early detected and treated, leprosy can cause irreversible damage to the skin, nerves, limbs, and eyes, leading to disfigurement, blindness, loss of sensation, chronic wounds and neuropathic pain. This means that individuals who have received treatment and were cured may live with physical impairments and the disability associated with it, as well as with the stigmatization and discrimination related with leprosy. For this reason, the correct term to refer to individuals who have experienced the disease and its consequences is persons affected by leprosy. This term encompasses individuals currently under treatment for leprosy and individuals cured from leprosy”.
